My journey in construction began right out of high school when I spent ten months working for free with my older brother to learn how to install kitchen and bath cabinets and countertops. This training, especially under a perfectionist, instilled in me the foundational techniques of carpentry and a keen eye for detail. After working in carpentry for 14 years, I transitioned into the roofing industry.

I started The Roof Authority by purchasing an existing business in Allegheny County, North Carolina, primarily to ensure my friend would not lose his job. While I initially only knew the basics of roofing, I became determined to be the best in the field. I thoroughly studied building codes and manufacturer specifications, and I even achieved a Master Craftsman certification from Certainteed in Oxford, North Carolina.

In 2022, my son, Marcus Smith, officially returned to the business after four years as an electrician to help me expand. Marcus grew up on the job site; he worked with me throughout high school, earning money to buy his own money. Even during his time as an electrician, he would still help with projects on the weekends.

Marcus is one of our most valuable assets. He now not only works on projects but also helps manage our job sites and estimate new jobs.
